Surigao del Sur in Philippines is gifted with nature’s beautiful scenery. Some are not yet known and some were already famous to tourists and adventurers.
One of those are the Laswitan lagoon where you can find both beast and beauty. It is located at Cortes, Surigao del Sur. The lagoon where people can take their swimming fun time while shaken by huge and angry waves. Safety precautions are required because people could be carried away as the sea waters pushes them forward and backwards.
You can witness these beast during the “Amihan” season or the Northeast wind. It is from October to March of the year.
In our tour to the place, we came from Davao City. It took us 6 hrs of travel (car) from Davao City to Tandag, Surigao del Sur. We took our rest over night at a lodging house near the beach. There are plenty of lodging house along the way from Tandag to Cortes. It is about 1 – 2 hours of driving from Tandag to Cortes proper.
When we got to Cortes, we just leave the car along the highway fronting a store because it was raining on that very moment and the road was slippery and not yet cemented. The store was near to the way going to Laswitan. The people on site were very generous and hospitable as we could entrust the watch for the car (locked of course) then we just bought something on their store and gave some tips for watching our vehicle. from there, we took the “habal-habal” ride (motorcycle) going to the lagoon. It took us about 30mins of a bumpy adventure.
On site you can easily buy food, there were lots of locals selling fresh fish for grill at an affordable rate. We were 5 people on that time and it only cost us less than 500 pesos worth of food for lunch including rice and bottled water.
